So, Let's see how are these website's are being ranked ? and what is the process behind it..!!

Before we learn about the Page ranking concept, First we should know about "How the Search engine like Google works ?" 

There are 3 Main process that Google does, they are :

• Crawling
• Indexing
• Ranking

CRAWLING :

• Google sends a Bot to every pages of website.  These bots are termed as "Crawlers / Spiders"
• These crawlers visits a website and helps to collect the data about the website and stores it in the servers
• Crawlers used to crawl the page based on the "sitemaps" provided by the webmasters
• Sitemaps are the basic route map for the crawler to visit and collect information about out website
• Crawler will be visiting all the LINKS it finds in our page
• Initially Google took nearly 90 days to crawls all pages on internet but now within one day the entire website can be crawled

INDEXING:

• The stored data about an website in the server by the crawlers are termed as "Indexing"
• It is similar to the index page of the book which contains the topics present inside and its page numbers which gives easy access to the readers
• Google creates multiple indexes during each of its crawling and based on the keyword that user searches it matches with website's data and recommends it

RANKING:

• A page is being ranked based on a number of factors
• Relevance of the website to the user's search query is determined by 200+ factors
• Main thing is the Page Rank of the website, the term Page Rank was coined with respect to its founder Lary Page
• Page Ranking can be referred as the measure of importance of web page determined by the links it gets from the other website resources
• Each Link we get from other site adds a value to our site
• Other factors determining the Page Rank are : 

1. Quality of content posted in the website
2. Technical Robustness of the website
3. Ease to navigate between the pages and lot more

• More the number of links we get from good resources, our page ranking also gets increased simultaneously
• Quality of the referral (Who is linking to our site) is the most important things to be noted here
• A Page rank is given with the maximum score of 10

Due to misuse of paid links to a website, google stopped to publish openly the page rank of the website.  It also created complex algorithm called "Google Penguin" to find the paid links that are referring to a website.  It will be comparing the need for the referral and the matching of the two site's objectives.
